Call to Action

The Connecticut General Assembly is scheduled to meet in special session on November 12 and 13 to consider sweeping legislation to address Connecticut's housing needs. According to an article in the CT Mirror, "Lawmakers and Gov. Ned Lamont are aligned on most portions of a new housing bill, written to replace the vetoed House Bill 5002. But a handful of the most substantial pieces of the measure are still up for debate."

These pieces include efforts to 1) ensure that municipalities work with their regional Councils of Government to determine the number of affordable housing units needed in their communities and take steps to revise zoning regulations, streamline approval processes, and other measures to meet those needs; and 2) limit the ability of municipalities to establish minimum off-street parking requirements for certain housing developments.

Lawmakers are also expected to address concerns regarding federal cuts to human services programs.

COST urges municipal leaders to reach out to their legislative delegations to discuss how the bills may impact their communities. COST will notify members when the bill language is available. As always, your input in invaluable to shaping COST's position on legislative issues.
